World of Warcraft Item Upgrades The upgrade of an item can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats. Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount. Item Level The value of an item's stats base increases as it is upgraded. This is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive dependent on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to do. This is due to how many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded. Item level is a widely used measurement of power and can be found on all tooltips of items. It also serves as a gating requirement while waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet. When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the levels of the item. It's a good indicator of an item's quality and how much damage it will be able to deal. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done using the level of the item. The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat. There are various theories on how the calculation of the item's level is carried out. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated by formulas that determine the worth of the stats of an item really are. It takes into consideration that different benefits are valued differently and that gems found in sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzards actual level of the item. However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, as the level of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, for instance by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have more ilvl than those from lower-level instances. Item Stats Stats on an item are a significant part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game utilizes them in many ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to motivate players to explore other weapons. The stat mods on a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's level. The upgrades to an item can increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare tiers can be upgraded many times with higher prices. Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other methods of rerolling. Players can upgrade an item with a specific stat or reroll affixes. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it is an exclusive item or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid. Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll attaches, or select which stats to boost. Like the base equipment, this must be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats simultaneously. Item Luck The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the strength of these properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade item s. It merely gives players the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game and is therefore more valuable in early game runs as opposed to later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains. In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. They can also be increased by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. The shields, armor and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140. Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased at the store or made using the correct ingredients. Item Failure Upgrades to items can be expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. The probability of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail can't be greater than 100%.. The luck of an item can influence the success of an upgrade. Every item has an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent. Note that item upgrades are rendered above the inventory items, so enchantment glint and other effects can be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
